THE Chevrolet Knights had to endure a frustrating final day to their SuperSport Series match against the bizhub Highveld Lions at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium on Sunday.
Nearly half the scheduled overs were lost to the combination of bad light and rain after they had the home side in trouble at 83/5 in pursuit of a victory target of 323.
Zander de Bruyn of the Lions was named SuperSport Man of the Match after scoring 92 in the first innings and taking four wickets.
A Knights’ victory would have put them hot on the heels of the two leading sides, the Nashua Titans and the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras, but it was not to be and they will have to try to make up the lost ground when they travel to Sahara Park Newlands this week to take on the Cobras.
The Titans are away to the Chevrolet Warriors at Buffalo Park.
There was much better news for the Sunfoil Dolphins who scored a comprehensive first victory of the season, beating the Warriors by 227 runs at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead.
The SuperSport Series Man of the Match award went to Vaughn van Jaarsveld for his first innings century for the Dolphins.
The Warriors could only muster 158 in their second innings with Arno Jacobs and Craig Thyssen both making half-centuries.
The bowling honours went to the left-arm seam bowler, Mthokozisi Shezi, who took 5/26 in 12.2 overs. It was his second five-wicket haul in franchise cricket this season and the sixth instance in his overall first-class career.
